A Tunnel under an In-Pit Mine Waste Dump to Improve Environmental and Landscape Recovery of the Site

By adopting the green mining concept, industry seeks to respond current societal objective of supplying mineral raw materials necessary for economic development while minimising ecological footprint. To accomplish environmental recovery simultaneously with exploitation, as well take advantage mine waste, this study proposes a new solution that includes construction tunnel access area. The developed topographical and geological data, was tested Bled El Hadba phosphate deposit. extraction volumes were estimated by considering all technical legal aspects exploitation. results showed best location is on non-mineralised bottom placed after ore removal. then progressively covered tailings it extended. This concept applicable sub-horizontal deposits. We show feasible allows full site at end open-pit phase.
